I’m sorry I can’t remember the sequence day by day, so I decided to write a complete overview of the Web design class.
My hobby and recent job is freelance designing which means that I’m quite familiar with web designing, but I have a really weak experience in programming pages. This class helps me to get to know the basis of programming and to combine my skills with it.
From the first class we started discussing and analyzing different pages, which I think is very good thing to do, because it makes us more critical to the pages that we visit and we learn a lot from that. Then we started to work with Dreamweaver and I learned a lot of useful staff, every lesson we’ve been making progress in knowing the application.
Finally we started designing our own pages. To be honest I hate my page, I would never put something like that on the internet which represents me and my interests. But the designs that I was trying to work with couldn’t fit to Dreamweaver. I mean when I was trying to put it all together, some parts where floating and came up with lots of bugs and lags. So I decided to make a usual prototype with cubic style, with simple buttons and header. I finally managed to put it all together and get my result. I would grade it about 25 out of 100.
The next task was to make the BAAM webpage, and Phil divided us into groups. I have chosen the design group. We set down with my group and we decided to make the designs everyone has in mind and to draw it at least on a piece of paper. Unfortunately I’ve missed classes and when i got back everyone was doing their staff and I got really confused why groups were reorganized or something I couldn’t actually understand what is going on. I thought we as design group are going to make the whole design of the webpage including header, menu, buttons and logo. But when I came at that day, everyone where split and one group where doing buttons another where doing logo, another where doing some other graphical parts. That fact got me confused on the first place, but really disappointed me, that nobody seemed to take me seriously when I was offering help with each of that graphics. Everyone seemed so busy making their own staff without actually communicating with each other. I got really mad actually because of that fact. My experience showed that there can be a group of people in design, but it makes it easier if only one person actually does it on computer and others give ideas. In this class everyone was tending to make something by themselves, its very good that they get so enthusiastic, but in design it only makes it worse, because when you start working with design you put something from yourself into your work, and when everybody start making different styles …. uuufff crap, total crap. Working alone is also hard, because sometimes when you look at your design for too long u become addicted to it and u can’t actually think of something else that would make your work beautiful. That’s why designers sometimes do their thing for so long. But when you are out of time it helps soooo much when somebody gives you ideas, and then you go like: “Oh my God, why didn’t I think about it, that’s very good!!!” And here we go your all in work again. So I stopped offering help, anyway nobody wanted it, and I started my own design. And I thought: “Ok, let’s see what will they come up with, maybe I’m wrong!”
Then Phil sent us an e-mail with links of what we have so far,…. I would leave this without comments. To be honest it is embarrassing for us, BAAM students, to have something like that officially on the net. Then everybody in the School would laugh at us. I don’t want my group to be embarrassed, and I guess that IBS would not be interested in putting this officially, because it won’t attract students to our coarse as it could have. I have now completed the design and I will ask Fathir to send it to everyone and probably vote for it, if there is any changes that might take place I’m ready to fix anything in order to make it better. And no one have to worry about programming part, because my partner is a good friend of mine and he would definitely be interested to make it, because having something with name “IBS Oxford Brookes University” in personal portfolio is something really great.
